TLDR: Calico Books' goal is to provide insightful feedback and share our love of books with other readers. Our 5 star rating system is meant to help us better provide our thoughts on the books we share.

When it comes to book reviews, everyone does things a little differently. Here at Calico Books, we use a 5 Star Book Rating System. Depending on the platform we're publishing our review on, you may see a half-point system in place - this helps us better express our thoughts on a book when necessary. Below, you'll find explanations for each step in the system and why we may place a specific book there.

It's important to remember that books aren't made to be consumed by everyone, most of the time they have an intended audience. Just because one person loves a book doesn't mean their neighbor will, and just because a book has a low rating, doesn't mean it's a bad book, it just means that every reader has different tastes. Our goal at Calico Books is never to bash books or discourage authors. Our goal is to provide insightful feedback and share our love of books with other readers.

It was everything we hoped it would be and we can't stop thinking about it! Like, we have a serious book hangover that we just can't shake!

4.5/5 Stars - It would've been perfect if not for that one thing!

We really liked it and would highly recommend it! It's definitely in our favorites list!

3.5/5 Stars - There were a few aspects of the book that we didn't connect with but overall it was a really enjoyable read and left us wanting more.

⭐⭐⭐ 3/5 Stars

It was good and we would recommend it. It didn't have us jumping off the walls with excitement or throwing the book across the room in extreme emotion but it was a nice read and an enjoyable experience.

2.5/5 Stars - There was something missing. We didn't connect with it as much as wanted to but our interest in the story was still there.

⭐⭐ 2/5 Stars - It was fine.

It was fine. We finished it but we didn't have very strong opinions on it, negative or positive.

1.5/5 Stars - It took a lot of energy to finish this but we did.

⭐ 1/5 Stars

DNF (did not finish). It just wasn't for us. Whether it was because of the writing style or the genre, we just couldn't get through it.

0.5/5 Stars - DNF. We definitely weren't the intended audience for this and we didn't find the writing style enjoyable.
